Not a morning bear: A male brown bear named Palle-Jooseppi emerges from his den covered in snow after waking up early from hibernation at the Ranua Zoo in Finland on Feb. 23. After working hard to break out of his snow-covered den, the bear promptly fell back asleep on a snow bank.
Brown bears spend the warmer months of the year packing on the pounds for their impending hibernation. However, because they are not full hibernators, they can easily wake in the middle of their slumber.
