Photo of the day: Machu Picchu
An early morning, panoramic view of the citadel of Machu Picchu in Peru, is as luminous today as it was upon discovery. About 100 years ago, American explorer Hiram Bingham arrived at the Inca sanctuary that was declared a UNESCO world heritage site in 1983. Bingham — the real-life inspiration for Indiana Jones — is credited with putting the famous 15th century city on the map, but he is also accused of looting Peru of its riches, much of which remains at Yale University.
