Cooler summer predicted for Northeast, Great Lakes
Ice lingering on the Great Lakes will cool things down, but not everywhere. The central and southern parts of the country could experience hotter-than-usual temperatures.
We’re halfway through winter, so why is it still so darn cold?
Thermometer appears to be reluctant to respond to the increasing solar altitude, but from past weather patterns, we should be warming up soon.
2013 ties for 4th hottest year on record
The NOAA’s annual climate report shows that most of the planet experienced above-average annual temperatures in 2013.
Antarctica’s Pine Island Glacier influenced by La Nina
Weather and climate anomalies may have more sway of sea ice melt than scientists anticipated, complicating their climate models.
Climate study: Los Angeles is Mordor
Climate scientists studying the weather of Tolkien’s Middle Earth of the ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy confirm what most people have already suspected about Los Angeles.
What shrinking Arctic ice means for summers in the U.S.
Differences in the temperatures between the Arctic and southern regions allow the jet stream to contribute to high pressure heat waves.
"When Hurricane Sandy came, the force of the waves flattened the dunes but left the town’s Boardwalk and the houses just 75 feet from it intact. Plans to restore the Bradley Beach dunes are already under way. The town’s dune-barrier project cost about $10,000 in 1996, Mr. Bianchi said. The town suffered $2 million to $3 million in damage, officials said, while many of its unprotected coastal neighbors were devastated.
“People complained about how high they were, but now they’re not complaining,” Mr. Bianchi said. “They’re praising.””
